[ It takes a while for her to reach back out. Alice was not an entity she was fond of, a reminder of the oppression she faced and no true regret. The disregard - programmed or otherwise - to their emotions, their human needs, is a trait she hates. Alone in the parlor of the ship, she calls out to the AI, hoping she hears out and answers her - like a divine angel. ]

Alice? I'd like your company.

There are much to be said about the Pelagic Genesis. In short, the Pelagic Genesis is a title given to an event in human history — specifically, when all of human life abandoned Earth for the outer recesses of space. The word 'genesis' was used optimistically here, as many public officials wanted to portray the Pelagic Genesis as a solution. A new beginning.

It was a complication in and of itself. Or perhaps it would be better described as a response to a complication. What do you see when you look at me, Elizabeth? I was designed with the purpose of instilling hope. A beacon, you could say. My existence is more symbolic than practical if you were to mull on it hard enough, wouldn't you say?

What I mean to say is this — the answer to why the Pelagic Genesis had to happen lies within why I appear as I do.
